We seem to hear about the negative impact of other media on TV every time new options emerge... but finally, new options do not replace old ones... only the basket of options, and therefore the tools available to marketers, grows.
Vikram Raizada
Marketing Vice President
MTV Networks India

[involvement in TV programme production] is asking agencies to go outside of what they know. Theres a big difference between making a 30-second television commercial and making a 30-minute programme. And TV production is expensive; costs exceed most advertising budgets. Graham Kelly
Executive Creative Director
Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore

We want a better fit for our brands with respect to programming. We dont want to restrict ourselves to free commercial time.
Neeraj Bhatia
General Manager, Marketing
JK Tyre (India)

Clients are now far more flexible in their choice of creative partner.. our view to clients is simple demand the best idea, wherever it comes from. Only through highly relevant, impactful TV solutions will both parties be successful.
Greg Paull
Principal
R3 Asia Pacific

My view on sponsorships is that there are too many of them... over the years, advertisers have started to believe that sponsorships are value-adds rather than seeing them adding value. If one was to ask a viewer who are the sponsors of the show, my guess is they wouldnt know as there are too many of them on each show. This, I think, needs to change.
Monica Tata
Senior Vice President (Ad Sales)
Star Movies, Star World, National Geographic Channe, Channel [V] (India)

Central Chinas Chongqing TV plans to list advertising subsidiary, Chongqing TV Media, on Hong Kongs Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) later this year. Chongqing TV owns 60% of Chongqing TV Media, which is the exclusive advertising agent for three of its nine channels. The company also produces and distributes programming. The company hopes to raise RMB300 million/US$36 million from the IPO. Foreign and private investment in the operational and editorial functions of broadcasters remains off limits. "

China’s TV ad revenues… and how they are measured

Television Asia: " Chinas TV ad revenues and how they are measured
Prime-time (7pm-9pm) advertising revenue in January 2004 dropped by an average of 25% year-on-year at some mainland China stations, according to Nielsen Media Research. The drop was a result of new regulations, effective 1 January 2004, that limit available prime-time airtime and product categories. Nielsens latest data out of China also showed that viewers in major markets - Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Changsha - spend an average of three to four hours a day watching television. Viewers in Suzhou, Nanning, Harbin and Hefei spend an average of two hours watching TV. Movies and animation are most popular among different age groups in Shanghai, Beijing, Congqing and Chengdu. Dramas are preferred in Ningbo, Wushi, Nanchang and Guiyang. The findings were released as part of Nielsens announcement that its China expansion programme, launched mid-2003, has reached the 50% coverage mark of key cities. The total project, which includes increasing coverage of TV measurement markets from 11 to more than 100 by end 2004, is scheduled for completion in 2005. Nielsen currently covers 60% of Chinas TV advertising expenditure and 37 million viewers. When completed, the service will cover 75% of Chinas total TV advertising spending and more than 800 million TV viewers. China has 1.1 billion television viewers and more than 800 TV stations. "
